CEO's Report
It is with no boasting spirit if I say National Economic Education Trust (NEET) has taken some giant steps towards unearthing hidden genie in the remote corners of our country. Our main objective has been to assist disadvantaged communities obtain financial assistance at tertiary institutions. The end of 2013 saw our team travel to two municipalities in Limpopo, resulting in partnerships with The Greater Letaba and Greater Tzaneen Municipalities. The partnership culminated in us offering five bursaries to study local government related courses and ten bursaries to join the Samsung academy that assist cadets to be technicians that specialize in servicing all Samsung projects to fifteen students from each of the two Municipalities. The beginning of 2014 saw us partner with Royal Bafokeng Holdings and Nedbank foundation who followed the example set by the two Municipalities and assisted similarly with accommodation, transport and meals for ten cadets from Phokeng, and ten from Free State and Northern Cape who also joined the Samsung academy. NEET will always be indebted to Samsung, Local Government SETA who generously answered our plea to hold hands and educate the financially disadvantaged. For me the years highlight has been the successful golf day that we organized at the Johannesburg Kensington Golf Club in Kesington on the 27 September 2013. Our gratitude goes to our main sponsors Old Mutual, Daimler Chrysler and Fm2000 as well as to all the companies that purchased the right to compete. The event attracted some of the best amateur golfers in Gauteng, some who can hold their own against professional players. The proceeds from this event made it possible for Thirteen new students to start the journey of carving their ambition at various institutes of higher learning. Our Student Management Portal (SMP) continues to attract new partners who like ourselves have the challenge of knowing how their students are faring at tertiary, give the students the support that will assist them cope with their workload and also be a controlling tool of the budget allocated to them. We are confident that this cutting edge web-based technology will be a solution to many that would like to know how their students are doing without leaving their desks. 2013 saw us say goodbye to eighteen of our students who were at various Universities and completed their degrees and diplomas. We also say well done to cadets that were at the Samsung academy who all obtained the requisite 80% pass mark and wish them well in their journey towards the future. Samsung has already placed ten of these cadets in job with various service providers and we wish them well in their chosen careers. To all let us say the journey to a better tomorrow has just begun. Continue with education wherever you will be. NEET would like to be in contact with all our past students who were assisted in one way or other by the organization to fulfil their dream to get in touch with us. Our call goes back to persons that were associated with NEET from its birth in 1992 to date. We would appreciate hearing from you please. Let us join hands and educate our youth.
